Anatomy of the Tuberoinfundibular Neurone System (2) The anatomical distribution of the tuberoinfundibular neurone system has been elucidated by retrograde tracing of markers injected in the median eminence and by immunohistochemical staining of neurones containing hypophysiotrophic peptides (Fig. 1.4). Tuberoinfundibular neurones are influenced by nerve fibres from many parts of the brain; for example, those that integrate homeostasis, stress responses, mating, and reproduction. In addition, the tuberoinfundibular neurones are regulated by feedback effects of target gland hormones (thyroid, adrenal cortex, gonads).
